Hemisection of a tooth

This is the procedure where we can preserve healthy roots of an infected tooth where some  of the roots are unsalvagable.

When there is insufficient bone support it is best to eradicate the infections by removing the infected root, and try to reconstruct the rest of the tooth structure.

Following is a upper left 2nd molar tooth with infected buccal roots. After root canal treatment the weak buccal (Cheek side) roots were surgically removed.

The remaining palatal root was reconstructed with a gold crown to have the correct occlusion and function.
